SCOPE
Saudi Clinical Outcomes and Procedural Endoscopy Registry
A national, multicenter, prospective registry capturing every gastrointestinal endoscopic procedure in Saudi Arabia — EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, and video capsule — benchmarked against the UK National Endoscopy Database (NED/JAG), US GIQuIC, and the ESGE/ASGE quality framework, governed by the SGA.
Registry Objectives
- Establish a continuous, near-real-time national registry of GI endoscopic procedures — EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, EUS, and capsule — across all Saudi tertiary and regional endoscopy units
- Compute standardised ESGE/ASGE quality metrics (ADR, cecal intubation rate, BBPS ≥6 rate, withdrawal time ≥6 min, ERCP cannulation success, post-ERCP pancreatitis rate, perforation rate) per endoscopist, site, and region
- Enable confidential endoscopist-level peer benchmarking with funnel plots and SPC limits — following the GIQuIC and JAG NED models
- Supply the objective data stream required for SGA to operate a national Endoscopy Unit Accreditation program aligned with ESGE and ASGE standards
- Support trainee logbooks, DOPS/GAGES competency assessment, and SCFHS CME reporting from registry-captured case volume
- Enable epidemiologic and outcomes research on GI disease patterns in KSA — post-colonoscopy CRC, interval cancers, ERCP outcomes, and CRC screening uptake under Vision 2030
About SCOPE
SCOPE is Saudi Arabia's answer to the UK National Endoscopy Database (NED) — a national, auto-ingesting, accreditation-linked registry with the quality-metric rigor of GIQuIC and the procedure coverage of the ESGE framework. It targets the ~300,000–400,000 endoscopic procedures performed annually in KSA, starting with 10 founding sites in 2027 and reaching full MOH coverage by 2029.
SCOPE accepts data via two parallel channels at every site: manual entry through a bilingual REDCap-style CRF wizard, and automated ingest from site endoscopy reporting software — initial targets Provation MD, Endosoft EndoVault, and Olympus EndoWorks.
Regulatory Compliance
SCOPE complies with Saudi PDPL and is HIPAA- and ICH-GCP-aligned. AES-256 encryption of PII, full ALCOA+ audit logging of every change, a Data Access Committee (DAC) for research requests, and encrypted backups. Target: KSA-region hosting within 12 months of launch.
Auto-Computed Quality Metrics
SCOPE dashboards compute the following quality metrics nightly, benchmarked against ESGE/ASGE standards:
